Plastic and our oceans don't mix. We're here to do something about it. One of the simplest ways to keep plastic pollution out of the ocean is by putting our
trash into the right bin. Despite this, scientists predict that there will be more pieces of plastic than fish by 2050. On top of this, plastic production is expected to triple by 2050. Something needs to be done about it. That's why we're proud to be working with Plastic Bank. With their help, we're going one step further, together. By removing plastic from the environment one scan at a time.
How does it work?
Each time you use our app to dispose of your waste correctly (either by scanning a product or searching for it), we fund the collection of 1 plastic bottle on your behalf. This ensures that a certain amount of plastic will be collected from coastal areas via their global collection communities. It may not be exactly 1 bottle, but it will be equivalent weight.

If you scan a product that is not in our system, you have the opportunity to assign packaging to it. In return for doing this, we will remove the equivalent of 5 plastic
bottles, as we want to notice efforts that go above and beyond. With Scrapp, the more products you scan, the better you'll become at going zero- waste. And together, the more plastic we can stop from polluting our environment. So you can live guilt-free and be confident that your efforts will never go to waste.
Who is Plastic Bank?
The story of Plastic Bank began on May 9, 2013, when their Founder and CEO, David Katz, envisioned a world where discarded plastic could drive positive change.
David understood that most plastic waste leaking into our environment comes from areas of poverty. To solve pollution, he had to look upstream and help end poverty. He
started by launching the first Plastic Bank branch in Haiti. What began as a bold idea is now a reality that empowers underserved communities across Indonesia, the
Philippines, Brazil, Egypt, Thailand, and Cameroon to transform plastic waste into currency, providing income and social benefits. These countries have high levels of
plastic pollution and lack sufficient formal recycling infrastructure.
“I think the real gift of that day was the realization that I didn’t need to create Plastic Bank. I needed to become the person who could. It was really a spiritual day of awakening for me. There was a still, quiet voice, unattached to outcome and meaning. It was a space that said: You can become the person who makes a change in the world.”
– David Katz, on the moment he conceived Plastic Bank.
Why plastic offsetting?
We are helping organizations around the world reduce their waste footprint. But sometimes, waste is inevitable. We believe offsets can play a valuable role in countering the inevitable waste that is destined for landfill or Waste-to-Energy. It means there is no excuse for delayed action. More importantly, we want to embody the compounding effects positive actions have. If you do a good deed, compounded with another, you are more likely to keep up that action and tell others. Small actions compound. We're taking action by empowering people to sort stuff into the right bin. We are then leveraging our data-driven insights to help brands & retailers make more sustainable packaging decisions at the source. Scrapp is a positive network that is becoming a force for good. Through the mobile app alone, we have removed 1.8 tons of plastic from nature!

What else is Scrapp doing to support a businesses reduce their waste?
We go beyond citizen waste practices, as we recognize the entire responsibility of the plastic problem isn't on each individual. Our mission is tackling the issue at the source -
upstream. We are using our waste data-tracking technology to help businesses reduce the amount of waste they produce at the beginning of its journey. We understand that there is some waste that you just can't remove from the system, or the system would cease to exist. Through our partnership with Plastic Bank, we can now offset the tons of waste our clients produce every year that they physically can't get rid of. So, organizations working with Scrapp can offset the remaining amount of landfill waste they produce by funding the collection and recycling of an equal weight of discarded plastic from the environment. If they want to do more, they can!
